The key intersection points for my work are where mid Twentieth century history meets British social history. This applies to all my work and in my PhD thesis, I examined the impact on middle-class life in Suburbia brought about by rapid increases in Automobility. In more recent years, I have become more interested in the development of Modernity between the wars, in suburbia and also in the last year or two before the start of World War Two. A constant preoccupation of mine throughout my career as an academic has been the impact of Americanisation on Britain through cultural transmission, reception and hybridisation. I have a special interest in the Americanisation of the British roadhouse, a project I am working on with Prof. David Gutzke.
